THE NEED FOR SCHOOLS TO ISSUE TERMINAL REPORT SHEET

The school is an environment of learning and learning covers three domain, the affective, mental & psychomotor. The actual method of determining learning is indirect and continuous using TEST.

Test is a standard instrument that measures learning in learners according to rules and its expressed or represented in numerical bases. Examination, classwork ,assignment etc are examples of test.

Many schools in Nigeria uses Test as a means of assessing students or pupils performance following the adoption of Continuous assessment in 1972 by the federal republic of Nigeria but only few display the result of the test for students these days.

I recalled my days in primary and secondary schools. Exams was written after weeks of teaching and learning then result published or announced on the day of vacation. The office of the vice principal academics was Even left open after the day of vacation so parents or students that missed the collection of report sheet can get it comfortable.

The memories from those faithful days of report sheet collection is one thing i will never forget in my life. It was a very happy and hilarious day as we will lined waiting anxiously patient in the assembly hall for the first, second and last results to be announced. Rewards were given to the best three. I remembered how i will beat my chest in challenge to Ugwu Joshua,Ndidi Elechi and other smart students that i will emerged first next term. Infact i remembered a story where Cletus Iban openly challenged me to first position but came begging on the day of vacation that i should leave the school to another so he could shine. Funny!!.
There was obvious zeal and competition to emerge first three and it did increase academics focus in every term. The failed students were mocked and ridiculed till they get to their houses. While their parents will removed some privileges for them, more were added by the first three students parents. Big cork among others was well prepared in the homes of the best students/pupils. These welcomed privileges contributed to the reason why no one ever wanted to fail again,it resulted to three or more students having the same average cum position in class report sheet which we captioned then as "bracket".

To how we shifted from this era to now with supposed progressive time still amazes me. Schools mostly government owned vacates without issuing report sheet to students even some privates schools have been affected by the virus. In the last info, i heard what angered me, public schools in some states in Nigeria haven't issued report sheet to students from first term to third term. How does this students sit up or feel motivated to read harder? Its annoying to reflect on this, students just do self promotion. One headmaster i spoke with said results is now cumulated by the state board of education,"we send the marked scripts to them to compiled".

Imagine just 10 or few persons working on the entire schools population in Cross River. This has resulted to long duration before students get to know their grade, this has killed the competitive spirit in students. What's education without grading? It makes classroom lookwarm and non challenging . Even at my level when i go through some grade i did earned in exams ,i will fall to my bed, take a breath, wake up and rearranged it properly to show to my children or hope they will come across it someday.

State boards of Education need to wake up!!

Commissioners of Education need to wake up!!

Proprietors wake up from your whatever ideology!!

Education stake holders wake up......

Pricinpal Wake up........

Teachers Wake up....

Its not late,we can still effect changes because Students without report sheets are like Cars without fuel.
