COURT GRANT BAIL TO THREE PERSONS ARRESTED FOR SELLING A FOUR MONTH OLD BABY IN MINNA
A court in Minna,Niger state has granted bail to Eucharia MBA who was arrested for selling her four months old baby at a price close to just one million naira.
The woman was arrested last month along side two others(a male &female) who she connived with to sale the child to one Mr Emeka residing in Enugu State. The child was still in good health as of the time of arrest following a tip from the husband of Eucharia.
They were charged to court by the husband of Eucharia and the magistrate who was so passionate with the harmer of the law granted bail to the two women on the grounds of one being pregnant and the other(Eucharia) nursing just a four months old baby.
The other man were later bailed with a price of half a million.
Euchari Mba lamented "it was adject poverty that pushed me to attempt selling my baby. I was afraid to see the child suffer." She further blamed the husband who sales petty spare part and repairs tyres for contributing less to the up keep of the family. The four months old child is said to be her fourth child for the man.
Reacting to the news some Nigerians expressed shock but those who knows the lady said they were not "surprised". One Mr Obiodun was of the view and advise that "there is no condition worth selling your own child nor another man's child. If she said it was poverty then she may still do such acts because she is still poor. The money they never had is out now for their bail,with all due respect she and her counterparts are not just financially poor but mentally poor too."
Mr Obiodun added that "there is need to cut your coat according to your size, let's consider how having we have inorder to reduce the high number of children."
The husband of Eucharia expressed sadness over the incidents describing it as "e no good" despite the hardship they are facing. He pleaded for assistance from the public and government.
Child trafficking is predominant among Nigerians with several arrests made by the police force and subsequent count of charges in court. Many are yet to desist from it as they believe its use for sacrifices to deities for riches, protection and fame. Though some accused and blamed specifically the authorities, Business men and politicians for being behind some of the blood sacrifices.
The case was adjourned to the 17th of October and not dismissed as some have thought following their bail. If find guilty, they will serve the would be punished as the court pleases.
