COURT DISMISSED THE TRIAL OF A WOMAN THAT KILLED HER RAPISTS
A court in Johannesburg, the Capital of South Africa have dismissed a case brought against a woman who killed her rape victims months ago.
The woman was arrested by the local police after she stabbed one man to death and brutally injured the other for raping her 19 years old daughter. The woman is reported to have met the two men gang raping her daughter in a hide out. She carefully approached from behind and stabbed one to death leaving the other with injuries.
She was arrested by the police following a tip off and charged to court for murder but the court yesterday dismissed and acquitted the case on the grounds of self defense.
The family of the deceased expressed disappointment with the ruling with strong doubts their Son wasn't involved in the rape and even if he was the law allows fair trial. They associated the ruling to the fact the judge is a woman and vowed to appeal the case. The spokesperson of the judge however responded to the claims as "unfounded and judicial illiteracy", adding that if there was no fair trial there wouldn't have been such ruling.
South Africa is reported to have over thirty thousand rape cases annually with many afraid of coming out because of stigmatization, not sure of justice or they don't have the width to challenged their rapists.
There is no law yet in South Africa or any part of Africa that allows the killings of rapists but with the recent ruling many believe it is becoming "technically allowed". The known laws formulated about raping are just long jail terms with hard labour.
Experts have associated the high rate of rape in the area to the availability of illicit drugs in the streets of South Africa, hatred among the two race and increased in juvenile delinquencies. They further expressed the view that the absence of stiffer penalties or ensuring justice has also contributed to increased rape in the area. They believe illiteracy and recent dress styles(though no outfit is an invitation to rape but its one known reason) have also contributed to the menace not just in South Africa but in the other part of Africa.
