ODINGA: "ELECTION IN KENYA IS A CORONATION RITUAL"

Raila Odinga, the opposition leader in the just concluded Presidential election in Kenya has described the outcome of the election as just a "coronation ritual".

Addressing his supporters today in Kenya, Odinga insisted protest will continue till reforms are established in the electoral commission. "we will continue to assembly, protest and picket till reforms are made".

Odinga who boycotted the rerun election had just 0.09% of the votes while Uhuru Kenyatta had 98% votes that attracted just 39% participation. A figure lower than August 8 election that was annulled by the Supreme Court for irregularities and illegalities.

Yesterday's declaration of Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner by the chairman of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has so far received a petition calling for it cancelation.

Odinga is expected to file a petition within 7 days but he is yet to tender any with a day gone. Odinga had earlier described the August 8 election as "cham" and accused the IEBC of corrupt practices.

In today's broadcast, Odinga expressed his staying off the election was a sign of "dignity and integrity" in a corrupt electoral system that he said has become a "Coronation Ritual".

A statement of "Coronation Ritual" was explained by a political analyst to mean "a questionable success by a particular person whether face with opposition or not". Odinga later described Kenyatta as a "Megalomaniac destroying progress and democracy".

Kenyatta had in broadcast yesterday thank Kenyans for participating and called for the country to "move on".
