EXPLOSION IN CALABAR KILLED 13 PERSONS
Fire outbreak at the Linc terminal of Calabar depot have left many death. According to eye witness,the fire incident started around 2:am on Monday.
The calabar depot was rumored to embark on strike on that same Monday the 17 July following it disagreement with the state government but later called off the strike.
According to eye witness "fire started when a sheep was supplying petrol to two tank farms and a staff of the tank farms open the pipe to siphon oil but the pressure knocked him down and he died on the spot. Petrol flowed from the pipe to gutters and villagers got out to scoop oil but there was a spark from lit cigarette. The fire which lasted for hours before Fire Safety Official finally arrived left more about 13 persons dead and others injured.
Mr Itaya Nyong, the Commissioner for Petroleum Resources later arrived the scene and wasn't happy with the sad incident. he said: “The fire was as a result of the activities of criminal elements and the culprits will be brought to book.”
