TIV TRADITIONAL COUNCIL TO REDUCE BRIDE PRICE CUM BURIAL COSTS

Nigeria society is face with high cost of burials and bride price. The money spent during this occasion subject many to hunger cum borrowing there after. This Practice is what has caught the attention of the Tiv Traditional Council. 

The Chairman of the council, His Royal Majesty Prof. James Ayatse has announced a 15Man committee has been set up to look into the issue. The Committee is expected to bring out the appropriate measures to reduce items for bride price and cost of celebrating burial in the Area.

The  Committee headed by His Royal Highness Chief Jam Gbinde Ter Ikyor has three months to tender its findings or reports.

Residents in the areas especially Bachelors have expressed delight on the news and full support for the Committee. The youths described the practice as a barrier to getting married and a reason some young men dive into illegal means of accumulating resources.

Some also welcome the move especially on burial celebration that have recently become Ceremonies resulting to poverty on families thereafter. Such practice was described by them as not being in consonant to Tiv Tradition. 

The chairman of Tiv Traditional Council has beckoned on Significant Bodies and Stakeholders to assist in eradicating such borrowed cultures that are not beneficial to the growth of Tiv Land. The chairman also advise the general Tiv public to desist from beads or attires of traditional rulers and indiscriminate sales of ancestral land that often result to communal clashes in the area.

Tiv is the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria with over 6million individuals.
