A CHAIRMAN IN OBUDU SUSPENDED FOR MISAPPROPRIATING MILLIONS OF NAIRA

Obudu Local Government Area of Northern Cross River State have come under astonishing news again following the suspension of a community chairman for misappropriation of three million naira raised on ohong community day last year (2016).

The community name Ohong aliened to Begiading political Ward celebrates it community day every year around first week of September close to the new yam celebration and have it Well doing Sons & Daughters contributing financially on such days. Last year contribution was awesome and the first of it kind the community was able to raise three million naira despite the economical hardship. 

The money was handed to the community chairman Mr Ben Aboh(a retired principal of government school Obudu) and his Ten Men led leadership exco as the custom and law of the area demands with the obligation to bring out noticeable projects that will be beneficial to the entire community. Unfortunately this was not done till this year Ohong day which a called for accountability was raised.

The Chairman Mr Ben Aboh who was nominated to a four years power two years ago has been widely praised for his discipline leadership that restored okays in the community explained before the entire Community that the money was used to host the recent Ohong Day but that was not alright for the members of Ohong Community as a decision was reached for his suspension and a clear statement of account be tendered in a month's time from the day of suspension.

The suspension however means the Ohong Community is currently acephalous as no one has been appointed to act in that capacity resulting to rumors of youths going back to their ways of misbehaving and involving proudly in illicit drugs and dry gene known as ogogoro that were all barn by the Mr Ben led tenure which is suppose to elapse by next year.

Some of the indigenes both home and in the city have poured out disappointment about the news describing it as a "fence to contribute subsequently". One daughter of the soil who spoke said "Its a big slap on our faces that for the first time ever ohong is getting such amount of money it could not be accounted for even at this grassroot level yet we criticize political elected leaders. Maybe that is the reason this year ohong day attracted a poor turn out. The only joy i and maybe others will have is to tell us where that money is because it has not been used for anything obvious."

The other young man who reacted said "Am not disappointed because i expected such news,money is money, listen again money is money. Such money was contributed without a project in mind and for over one year no one asked of it hence fetching from it becomes a project. Things are smooth if you have a reason of doing it but contributing the money alone was a reason and there is no acceptable reason for what we hear now because it is a fence to further contribution."

It is worthy to note that Ohong day celebration began many decades ago and of recent it's spear headed by the Ohong Sons & Daughters in Calabar under the name Ohong Development Association who contribute hundreds of thousand with strong support from Ikom branch and other branches nationwide who also contribute not less than a hundred thousand Naira for the yearly hosting of Ohong day a practice which many have criticized that such money should be use for the empowerment of youths and significant others rather than using it to eat,drink and be happy without happiness.

Appeal have been sent in for peaceful resolution of the matter.
