FOOTBALL LOVERS IN ZAMBIA DESTROYED PLAYER'S RESIDENTS
Following the one nil defeat of the chipolopolo of Zambia by the super eagles of Nigeria and their inability to qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup, Angry citizens have destroyed the homes of some Zambian players.
One of the player affected by the attacks Alex N'gonga who is a striker and featured in the game against Nigeria played in Uyo on Saturday described the incident as "unkind and show of hate over passion."
The attackers are reported by the local police to have stormed the home of N'gonga pulling off the roof and breaking the glasses. The mother of the 28 years old striker was spotted running for safety.
The attackers are said to be angry over their team poor performance in the game despite the millions invested by the Zambian government. N'gonga was involved in few one on one missed chances with Super Eagles goal keeper and that is suspected not to have gone down well by lovers of the game in Zambia.
In the northern part of the country another player's house was reported to be invaded by unknown men who made away with valuables. It is uncertain if it was a robbery or expression of vexation about the game but the co-incidence of it nature suggest it is as a result of the game.
African players have often come under such attacks with Samuel Eto'o affected once in 2006 after missing a penalty that resulted to loosing the nation's cup to Cote D'voir in the finals. Eto'o house was destroyed in Yaoundé the Cameron capital. Yakubu of Nigeria also faced similar threat in 2010 world cup after he clinically kicked the ball out of play in an empty goal post. An event that remains one of the worst painful missed chance in the history of Nigeria football and many Nigerians are yet to "forgive him".
In a similar show of vexation Zimbabwe Police force was alleged to have recieved an order of arrest for the country Olympic team by veteran president Robert Mugabe because of the team poor performance in the Olympic games in Brazil, despite how heavily funded the team was.
The news which had it the players will be arrested and work for the money spend on them was believed by all who knows the width of Robert Mugabe and got some of the players scared of going back home but was later debunked by Mugabe spokesperson. Though some believed the debunk came after "nerves were calm".
No life or arrest have been made in regards to the incident but properties worth hundred of thousands have been destroyed. The families of the players expressed worries about their safety and begged fellow Zambians to control their emotions and moved on as football game is either win ,draw or lose. They added that Africans especially should maintained "maturity over emotions". The Zambia police authority also warned they won't tolerate any break down of law and has commenced investigation into the matter.
Zambia won the Africa Cup of Nation co-hosted by Garbon and Equatorial Guinea in 2012 for the first time in the history of the country.
T. B Joshua predicted or prophesied their victory.
