INFERNO HIT KENYA POPULAR MARKET
An inferno has hit the popular Kenya Gikomba market early this morning. The fire is said to have started around 2:am while shop owners and traders were away. The cause of the fire is still unknown but comments share on Social Media such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram points towards an electric spark.
Efforts are on by the state fire service to restore normalcy but many shops and properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed but no life is said to be lose yet.
Most of the traders as reported on different news site and on Facebook were spotted weeping and blamed the authority for slow response to the incident.
The fire is said to be the first of it kind in the popular market that sale second hand cloths also known as okrika. The market is known to attract mostly female customers because of the availability of affordable Okrika. Gikomba market is located in Nairobi the capital of Kenya and generate huge revenue for the government. An act many believe the government is contributing less than the take to ensure safety of the market.
The fire outbreak which has affected four buildings closer to the market was at first mistaken by most Kenyans as an escalate of the ongoing political violence in the country.
Kenya is currently experiencing political violence following the 54% Victory of incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta over his strong contender Raila Amolo Odinga who belong to the Luo ethnic group that haven't produce a president. A result which was rejected by Odinga and his many supporters because they believe the result was manipulated by the electoral body.
A case was filled in court and the August 8 Election was annulled by the highest Kenya court with an order for a rerun in 90days. 26th of October,just next weekend away is the new date for the general election and Mr Odinga has threaten to abstain from it unless the irregularities surrounding the earlier election are made level.
Some schools have been shut down in the area following the violence that have claimed many lives and injured others.
