OAU STUDENT COMMITTED SUICIDE AFTER FAILING A CHEMISTRY COURSE

A 100 level student of Obafami Awolowo
University OAU, Mercy Olamide Afolaranmi has committed suicide after failing a first semester chemistry course.

16years old Mercy was in department of Microbiology and offered CHM101,an introductory chemistry course as part of NUC requirements for her department and some science related areas.

Mercy who was described as a very intelligent, God fearing student had just E in CHM101 and that's is suspected not to have gone down well with her. She is said to have been emotional sick about the grade because it was not a description of her.

She is said to have drank Sniper, a rat killer substance mixed with batteries two weeks ago in her rented room. She was taken to the hospital but died before her parents could arrived.

She has soon been buried with tears from friends and relatives in her home town.

Some Friends of mercy alleged that it was a murder and not suicide. They pointed accusing fingers to her room mate saying they both have not been in peace terms and even food was cooked separately by them. They accused the room mate of poisoning Mercy and urged the police to carry out a thorough investigation about the matter.

An elder brother of Mercy Timothy said
"You wanna know what happened right?
This girl makes liquid soap for sales,she did that on Tuesday. She knows how acidic the constituents of soap is,she could have killed herself with that. Why stressing herself to the extent of getting batteries and rat killers.She was due to have a seminar presentation at Ekiti on Thursday or so..she has her presentation all jotted out,why will she disturb herself and write out her presentation when she knew she wants to die?"

Timothy added "If a suicide is committed,its a painful death and its self inflicted. Why will her room be scattered and her vomit so scattered around the room? She could have just vomited at a place,endure the pain and give up the ghost. She has a roommate. They have issues this semester. recently they don't cook together,which shows there are indifferences between them. She was the one who holds her phone all through Wednesdays. Why?she wouldn't allow anyone speak to her all through Wednesday ,saying she's busy resting,why? She's a devoted christian. That's what lead to the post everyone is seeing. She went to her pastor on Sunday and raised 3questions. One on evangelism,the second I don't remember and the last is how to manage a relationship between two females friends. why?owing to the fact about the issues going on between her and her roommate."

"I'm her brother. I know her more than anyone else,I visit her at seldom in school and see how she's fairing. She has not always been the best in her class,so she knows life is a competition. She understands so well that...life is not about school results, because she has good examples from her brother and sister. She knows the money we give her are not from school results but from societal intelligence. During her death, burial and even at the mortuary....this her so called roommate never cried,why? Even as a man,I can't stop my flows when I saw her corpse. Reverse was the case for her roomie. Her statements contradict each other. But my parents are not ready to press charges,trying to calm me down and say..."will that bring her back from the dead?" They say they wanna leave everything to God".

"Anyone could have dropped that by her side knowing she will not make it...so her murder can be covered and mislead to suicide.
With your own digression....is this suicide or murder?". Timothy concluded with tears.

Mercy had posted on Facebook that she can't wait to see the beautiful face of her creator before her death and many have concluded her death was a suicide.

Some Nigerians plead with students and significant others to deal with failure rightly as it was just a first step in learning. They urged Lecturers especially in Science related areas where there's known low turned out of graduates yearly to teach effectively and maintain integrity in the examination process.
