OVER FIFTEEN THOUSAND TEACHERS FAILED EXAMS MAIN FOR PUPILS
Over fifteen thousand teachers who failed exams main for the pupils they teach are to be sacked in Kaduna State. The test which was conducted by the state ministry of Education as measures to check the efficiency in the teaching and learning system had many teachers failing woefully.
Details from the state ministry of education has it that thirty three thousand teachers took the exams but 22,650 teachers failed the exams.
The Kaduna state governor Nasiru Ahmed El'Rufai expressed shock about the teachers performance and ordered they should be sack with immediate effect to safe the turnout of half cooked pupils. The governor blamed politics and God father for the employment of quack teachers in the state. He has mandated the exercise be extended to secondary schools and new employment be made to replaced the over twenty thousand sacked.
Reactions have followed the development with some describing it as a pity while others just laughed unendingly at the news. Nigeria is facing high rate of unemployment and the sacking of the teachers means increase in number of the unemployed.
Speaking in Kaduna Some of the teachers described the result as unacceptable because they think the score may have been altered hence the test lack integrity. They further expressed concerns that the move was politically influenced as most of them were employed by opposition politicians.
Reacting to the claims one indigene of the state said it is not true, they only got what they deserved and admitted some primary school teachers are not qualified.
Parents and guardians of pupils in government own schools in the state thanked the governor for rescuing their wards from "mental poisoning". One of the parent said "Thank you Mr Governor and whoever initiated this move,it will sure send some teachers home but it is for the best of the institution of learning especially for these generation children that so believed in my 'teacher said'. It should be extended to private schools too as most of these teachers may end up there.I am pleading that the next exercise of employment be carefully monitored."
However some indigenes of the state were of the opinion that not all of the teachers may be sack because of the same politics that got them there and if all are sack then disciplinary measures on ground in the employment of new ones, the number that would be employed may not be up to five thousand.
It can be recalled that early last year Adam Oshomole of Edo state almost slapped a primary school teacher who couldn't write her name. Concerns person have called on the state governors across the country to embark on such operation fish out quack teachers.
