WITCHCRAFT CHASE OBUDU INDIGENES FROM THEIR PATERNAL HOMES

Alleged witchcrafts activities have chased indigenes both old and young of Obudu Local Government Area in Cross River State out of their paternal homes to places of safety.

The practice is reported to have killed the love and cordial relationship between siblings and parents of the affected families. Many are alleged to have died ,some badly deformed in accidents, others constantly sick and Majority running away from their paternal homes or community because of witchcraft spirits.

There is also high rate of barrenness, impotent, retrogression, stagnation, madness, broken marriages ,cowardice, drunkenness and among others casted by the witches & wizards upon many indigenes of the area.

Questions have been asked who are responsible and it was disclosed that "the enemy of an Obudu man is Obudu man". It was further expressed that "an insect that eat a crop lives inside it". An expression that family members are responsible for the deadly evils acts. It was gathered that it could be Father, Mother, any of the siblings, external relatives such as grant parents, uncles, aunties and cousins who often appear so friendly but have no reason other than to destroy, cause pains and slay lives.

The origin of the practice of witchcraft is as old as man and it is often refer to as "black power" because of it "destructive nature". It availability in Obudu is growing worse daily. No village in the area is free of witchcraft though very worse in some villages like Bebuabie, Akem, Bebuason , Bebuagbon popular refer to as "ashe nde" (four eyes).

The mystery behind the alleged killings as confessed by some is that human blood is use as wine while the body is use as meat in the spiritual realm but the person to be killed is first turned into animals such as goat, cattle or sheep. It is believed that the more you kill the higher your rank of power and wealths in the spiritual realm. There's also confession that meetings are held at night hours where decisions are taken to influence the physical.

Narrating an ordeal one lady who is an indigene of Obudu and prefer not to disclose her identity said "I am a victim of witchcraft troubles, the past years have been terrible for me,i have lost my four siblings in accidents and various mysterious sickness. My uncle confessed he was behind it before he died. I can't really say all here but am alive today because God kept me for a purpose to tell the story so others can keep trusting in the name of Lord."
The lady further added that she is yet to have a child but believed God will do it for her as taught in the story of Sarah & Abraham.

Another man who reacted said "Am accused of witchcraft, by children don't come home again because they see me in their night mares and some prayer houses told them am trying to kill them. How can i kill my own children?. Its really sad even at my age to be accused. I can't deny the fact that there is witchcraft in the family nor the land but it is not from me."

The alleged witchcraft practice has left many compounds deserted and turned to cemetery. People in search of peace and long life has become visitors of prayer houses where they are asked to politely pay. Some have gone as far as Lagos to see T.B Joshua and those who can't  remain focus to their television set hoping to be set free.

As part of the steps to ensure normalcy villages across the area have enacted laws of banishing wizards/witches from the land till death while some passes no return's even in death. Such suspected persons are tried in the town hall and it means of judgment has always been right but also mysterious which create more worries.

Others affected take steps of remaining faithful to God while majority park's out of their paternal compound or village to their mother's village as believed they can't be hurt there by witchcraft. Some just rent a house any place of choice which has contributed to Most being tenants in their soil and others vowed not to ever sit in a vehicle going to Obudu. The practice has raised philosophy like "a happy man is a man that has no witch nor wizard in his home", "spare no witch/wizard and never give it a chance".

Appeals have been made to people flying like jets in the night to repent or face the fire of the holy ghost. They added that such acts is unwelcome by this generation and in this generation.
