MAN INFECTED WITH MONKEYPOX DIED IN BAYELSA

A man at his thirty and a Father of three that was infected with Monkeypox viral disease in Bayelsa State has took his own dear life in the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital.

The man has been identified as  Perekebina Biu from Patani Local Government Area of the state. Earlier News has it he took a poisonous substance but the management of the hospital revealed he hung himself with a rope to death in the room he was quarantined.

The hospital management also disclosed ten persons infected with monkeypox have been discharged and Mr Perekebina was so responding to treatment before he committed suicide.

Nigerians are still in surprise about the news with questions how he got the rope and where was the nurses or fellow patients infected with the virus when Pere as he was fondly called committed suicide.

One man who spoke anonymously was in doubt about the nature of perekebina demise with strong believe that the news is sugarcoated. "I am yet to believe the news, this is the first time in my life am hearing that a patient committed suicide in a hospital. Pere was not just a malaria patient but patient infected with a dreaded disease that the entire hospital eyes were on. The management of the hospital should kindly tell us if Pere died of the virus. We would deal with it."

Panicked was already in Bayelsa following the death of Pere as many thoughts he died of the disease but the
commissioner of health Prof Ebitimitula  Etebu has denied reports pere died of the disease and stress that "he committed suicide and people who want to commit suicide don't take permission from anyone nor disclose to any body."

One lady was of the immediate response that "the news remain that a monkeypox patient is dead whether its suicide or not but it is more shameful to know he committed suicide in the same hospital main to care. It only shows how poorly secure the hospital and some if not all others in Nigeria are".

Others blame the unkept nature of the vicinity and lack of adequate care for the infected persons as a reason for the death of perekebina. They expressed concerns that such outbreak victims and the entire public are so suppose to be exposed to continuous counseling services to help them deal with stigmatization that is alleged to be the reason for Pere's death.
They plead for improvement of our health services else more lives would be deliberately lost.

Monkeypox outbreak began in Bayelsa last month and has no known cure but over ten persons infected with the disease have been treated and discharged. Many have described it as "mysterious and miraculous".
