FULANI HERDSMAN COMMITTED SUICIDE AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS CATTLE

A Fulani headsman has committed suicide in Benue State over death of his 200 cattle.

The herdsman identified by his associates as Mohammed Abdulkadire jumped into River Benue, drowning himself during the weekend.

The dead cattle number about 200 is reported to have died from starvation. Benue state government had last month prohibits open grazing of cattle in the state.

The law restricting open grazing was initiated after alleged killings of Benue State indigenes by Fulani headsmen.

Many of the Fulani headsmen have relocated with their cattle to nearby Nassarawa, Kogi and Cross River States increasing fears and pressures in the states for such restricted law to be established.

Reactions have followed the suicide on social media with many realizing indeed how dear the lives of cattle are to those headsmen.

One anonymous said "I now understood the value and love these men have for their cattle, this is the reason for the alleged killings heard about Fulani Headsmen. Everyone breaks the limit for what he so love and value. I appreciate such love but it surprises me how its rated above fellow man. As a headsman, you are a shepherd and such value qualities of control shouldn't be limited to animals alone please.

If a man can kill himself over the death of his cattle then no one is safe. I just thank God it was hunger and not someone responsible for the death else casualties recorded would be higher than the number of cattle killed. However, even with the known reason,caution should be apply,Security should be beef up".

Cattle rearers are often rewarded at an agreed time by the actual owners or have a pretty percent from each sales. The death of one is counted as a great loss and 200 hundred is actually a pretty lose but no reason is acceptable for committing suicide.

The police public relations officer had denied awareness of the suicide.

Over ten thousand Nigerians are alleged to have died from Fulani Headsmen who attacks mysteriously with sophisticated weapons.
