MASTER AKAMABE ARRESTED WITH GUNS IN OBUDU
A young man identified as Master Emmanuel Akamabe has been arrested in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River for alleged possession of guns and bullets.
32 years old Master Akamabe who resides in Ranch Road axis of Obudu was arrested in the motor park early this week following a tip off from the Motor Park chairman, Martin Umbie popularly known as Makojo.
Akamabe was arrested by the Obudu police division after they found two pistols and live cartridges in the bag of garri he was traveling with.
Akamabe disclosed after the arrest he was on his way to make a delivery in Taraba state.
Some Residents and Indigenes of Obudu have expressed gratitude to the police for the quick intervention as such weapons are capable of taking many lives.
They expressed disappointment at the attitudes of some youths and elders in Obudu which contribute to fears and threats in the area known to be peaceful. They called for positive lifestyle as a way of restoring progress and self development.
Alleged speculations in Obudu encode that the tip off was because of "belonging to different groups suspected to be cult,politics or just dispute". One lady who spoke anonymously said,
"The arrest is a good news,guns are so dangerous. Am happy the law really frown at it illegal possession. Am also happy we now report any suspected possession of it but it shouldn't be partial. Illegal possession of gun is illegal whether it is by your friends, enemies, family or not it should be reported. Words are enough for the wise."
The case is still in Obudu Police division and its likely to be transfer to zone 6 Calabar, the state police headquarters.
Illegal Gun position is alleged to be high in the Nigeria society especially during periods of elections which often contribute to the insecurity of lives.
