EBOLA: REFLECTING ON THIS AFTER EXACTLY THREE YEARS

Ebola Virus was first discovered in South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo in 1976. In D R Congo it first casualty was near Ebola River in a remote village of the country,which the virus took it name from.

It outbreak in 2014 claimed so many lives in Guinea and Sierra Leon where it started before Patrick Sawyer a Liberian brought it On this day July 20 2014 to Lagos Nigeria while here to attain an ECOWAS summit in Calabar.

The awareness of it symptoms, transmission,prevention and control began immediately by President Goodluck Jonathan led government. It awareness brought more panic as days passes. This result to people bathing with salt and hot water,tying red cloths around elbows,eating bitter kolar etc just to stay alive,funny reflecting on this now but not then.

This day can't be complete without remembering the Lives of all those lose to the dastard virus especially the health staffs. You will always be remembered for your heroic efforts. Thank You. Not forgetting also the relentless effort of the then President Goodluck Jonathan led government to combat the spray of this dreaded virus that had no cure then . Nigerians are ever grateful Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. It was a test of your leadership width.

Despite it eradication and declaration of Nigeria as free of Ebola Virus by world Health Organisation (W H O) in october 2014 many questions have been asked about it emergence. A 70years old man who stays in Lagos said "we have hunted and ate bats/Monkeys from time immemorial, this is the first time we are heard bat or monkeys are dangerous to the society,they should tell us the truth,man is wicked and an adventurer" Another woman said Ebola affected her bushmeat sales which is just her major source of survival. An academic scholar who spoke without revealing her identity said "Ebola is a failed experimental research".
