OGOJA DIOCESE CRY OUT FOR A BISHOP
Catholic Christians in ogoja diocese have pour their heart to God and Rome to provide a bishop for the diocese. Ogoja diocese has been without a bishop since 2013 when Bishop Dr John Aya was appointed the bishop of uyo diocese.
Bishop Aya was made a bishop of ogoja diocese in 2007 just 13years in priesthood by pope Benedict the XIV. The appointment which followed several reactions then by older priests in the diocese lasted just for few years as he was transfered to Uyo diocese.Since then the bishop has been working on dual capacities as an administrator of ogoja diocese and a bishop of Uyo diocese for 5years now. This has gotten Catholics and concerned persons in the diocese wondering if there's no just priest in the diocese.
Some members of the diocese said its been difficult seeing the Administrator who base mainly in Uyo especially for urgent matters and shoveling between Ogoja & Uyo Akwa Ibom state hasn't been easy especially with the bad road network hence making the Bishop to be around only in ordinations that are often postpone or officiated by a guest bishop.
The absence has also made diocesans to fall back to denary leaders with diverse opinions towards matters. Ogoja diocese is a spiritual body, spiritual body don't need to be cold,it should be vibrant with a resident head. Bishop Aya did so well here and he is still trying his best but God who took him away should provide a replacement. Rome arise and keep ogoja diocese vibrant. If Vatican can't be without a pope for five years then non of it diocese should.
Ogoja diocese was established January 1st 1955 and has 38parishes. The diocese is in the northern part of Cross River State covering Yala,Obudu,Ogoja,Bekwara,Boki,Obanlikwu,Ikom,Etung,Obubra and Yakur Local Government Councils.
