VOICES FROM THE STREETS
"We live in the street,we survive in the street, street is our cousin, our cousin has established many but they abandoned and only remember us when they are in need again. Its so bad ,you know who am referring to".
This represent thevoice from one of the street in Nigeria lamenting on the neglects of the our elected leaders. If there is actually just one that best describe our elected leaders is disappointment. It get bad from tenure to tenure. Nigeria began democracy in 29 May 1999 since then its been government of the elected and his friends & family. Corruption has deprived the giant of Africa from making it citizens giant. The more steps taken to combat the virus call corruption there more resident it becomes. This and among others is the reason why most Nigerians and concern non Nigerians like Donald Trump the United State president said we need to be recolonized ,Its the same reason why the street is angry, Its the reason why unemployment rate is high.
Moving to the next street ,a group of people spoke alike ,a clear indication that its been really a burden. They cried for security. Their street has been under daily robbery, business is not flourishing any longer. People caught in the act of robbery and handed over to the police walks free in the next 7days. This has given rise to jungle justice in the street. Many thieves are burnt alive to death and the authorities have stayed cleared because they know its a product of their failure. The street bleed, there is blood on the street the young youth leader spoke. But the opinion of an elder was different despite the increases in crime in the street because he thinks innocent ones maybe killed as thieves as in the case of what we hear from other streets. He called on the security agents to wakeup to it responsibilities.
Am now in the next street, voices here seem to be happy but not as i thought as the shocking news got me joined them in tears. Ritualist and kidnappers have subjected most homes to melancholy. The anger of an old woman in the street is that, they don't even kidnapped the bad ones, only the good and helping ones are suffer such ordeals. Once they're taken only God can bring them back. Just as i was about leaving the street,i saw a group of people running towards the town hall, what's going ? One told me police just arrested some members of kidnapping group terrorizing the area for some time now. It was a sign of relief though the lives of those lost can't be brought back but atleast lives won't go through this way again.
In the next street, their yearnings are similar to others, they called on the government not to remember them during election alone but always. "We are not fools,if nothing is done for us we will show them our myth by next election". Many here have gone into learning skills. "One told me handwork is the best for now,am the boss of my own though we still need access to loan grants and effective economic policies that will project us and help send our children that have the aptitude to school."
Leaders are needed to make things right not wrong . though a leader can't achieve it all but atleast basic amenities shouldn't be above any leadership. A sound leadership should also have responsible security structures. The street need more smiles,we all came from the street and shouldn't forget the streets. Nigerians are the streets. Provide what they need. If leaders failed, the street will failed.
