MAN ARRESTED IN UNICAL AFTER STEALING MEAT FROM REV FATHER'S HOUSE

A young man was caught in the early hours of today as he found his way into the kitchen of the parish priest of St. Paul Catholic Church, University of Calabar to steal meat in the fridge while the parish priest was away for 9:0 O'Clock mass.

The young man who claims to be a prison warden, thought no one was in the house located at the university of Calabar staff quarters. He ran out of luck as he was apprehended just when he was leaving the kitchen with bags of meat in both hands. The young man was handed over to surveillance security in the university of calabar who later handed him over to airport police division.

It is gathered that Before today's incident, many items such as washing machines,  television sets, cookers, breakable plates, money and so on have been missing from the Rev father's house which developed suspicion in the minds of parishioners that Rev Father boys are behind it. Some even said they take it to give to their girl friends.

The arrested young man lives in the boys' quarters just directly behind the priest's kitchen. His arrest holds the fact that 99 days for the thief, one day for the owner and a warning to people who excuse stealing for hunger to desist from it.

Reacting to the arrest a resident of the quarters who works in the university of Calabar said "the confident moves and timing by the young man shows it was not his first time. Two heavy bags of meat not even one and he said its hunger,it is a big shame and a course to steal from the house of the priest,if it was in the times of old or around Edim Otop Area he will be a dead man by now.It's unfortunate that the quarters main for staff only is given to strangers whom we can't even identify. This practice may have contributed to increase robbery and kidnappings so associated with the quarters resulting to most staffs relocating for the safety of their lives and families."

It can be recall that early this year A Professor was kidnapped and later round a mother and her baby residing in the quarters were also kidnapped in broad day light which resulted to internal strike action by the staffs of the institution after appeal to beef up security in the quarters fell on working deaf ears. The strike was later called off as the leadership of the institution ordered a security team who are stationary and patrol the quarters.

The Rev Father was shocked about the incident and pledged full cooperation to the police in the investigation of the case despite the appeal of the young man for forgiveness the Rev Father said the case is not in his hands anymore especially in the hem of vices going on the quarters and the society at wide.

The incident attracted Sunday worshippers and students to the scene before the security took him away.
