SENATE APPROVED DEATH SENTENCE FOR KIDNAPPERS
Following the high rate of kidnapping in Nigeria, the senate have passed a bill imposing death sentence on kidnappers and 30years in jail for whoever abed with kidnappers.
The senate president Bukola Saraki said the bill has become necessary following the incessant rate of kidnappings in the country and it will go along way to deter and fight the menace of kidnapping.
In June millionaire kidnapper Evans was arrested by the police after a tip off by unanimous and he later pleaded guilty in August to the charges leveled against him by the police. The new passed bill means Evans will be sentence to death if proven guilty in the court. They have been several cases of kidnappings since then despite his arrest with the recent one happening in Edo State where a head of zoo was kidnapped which most Nigerians have described as a sad fact that kidnapping is a wide well rooted covered operation in the country.
Nigerians have reacted to the news describing it as a welcome news. One was of the view that he won't be happy, he said "Am not completely excited by such news because of what i and you know. They are other laws existing with equally stiffer penalties but Our judicial system is a non linear sincere graph. So i fear this may have no impact but its a welcome news and part of history but let this law be extended to corruption that is the mother of kidnapping and especially terrorism that have claimed many lives or may be it is already and am ignorant."
Another was of the view that kidnapping is on the increase because of bad governance. She said "One of the consequences of bad governance is the growth of violent criminality like corruption. When a crop of leaders deliberately loot the country dry with the intention of building a haven for their offsprings, they are exhibiting mental poverty. No kids live in isolation from the society. If your imagination is that the security agencies will protect them, then you better think twice and probably ask Wike what he meant when he alleged that policemen were behind kidnappings in Rivers State. The earlier we built a prosperous nation, the better for all of us."
Peace makers have warn people who indulge in such acts to desist from it as the new law has come to stay with full effect. They also pleaded with politically elected leaders to exhibit mental wealth by creating jobs opportunities that seems to be one of the reason these hoodlums use to excuse involving in kidnappings.
