ARMED ROBBERS INVADED SKYE BANK IN ONDO,TWO POLICE OFFICERS KILLED

Armed Robbers have invaded the premises of Skye Bank located in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state killing two police officers and catered away with undisclosed sum of money.

According to eye witness the robbers who were about 17 in number arrived the bank heavily armed yesterday(Thursday) at about 3:30pm just before closure and shooting sporadically on the air.

The bank was already closed for customers but reports has it the robbers forced their way in by blowing the door with explosives suspected to be grenade.

The two police officers attached to the bank engaged them in gun battle but were killed before back up arrived.

Some of the robbers were spotted outside the bank shooting continuously while others were inside looting the money. The oppression is alleged to have lasted for about 30 minutes.

Two Residents are reported to have been hit by stray bullet while others scampered for safety shouting the good saving name of God. Activities were brought to standstill in Ifon following the incident.

The manager of Skye Bank Ifon branch "declined from talking" to news men about the robbery as investigation was on going.

The police public relations officer in Ondo State Femi Joseph confirmed the incident to news men and said police are still trailing the robbers who were injured in gun battle with the response squadron.

News of Bank robbery is often recorded in Western part of Nigeria and Nigeria in general but the robbers are all reported to have been arrested by the gallant police. Alleged reports of police investigation has it some of the bankers are informant to the robbers.

Residents of ifon begged for improved security measures in the local government, saying if a bank can be comfortable robbed at broad day then no where is safe. Shops in the area were closed at about 6pm for fear of the unknown while others were still in shock because that was the first time they "experienced" heavy gun fire.
