C R S POLICE GUNNED DOWN A GROUP OF KIDNAPPERS

The newly formed Cross River State Police Kidnapping and Cultism anti crime unit in Calabar the state capital have shot dead a suspected kidnapper at the late hours of yesterday after exchange of bullets with the kidnapping group in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.

The state commissioner of police Mr Hafiz Inuwa disclosed the new unit in the state police force has become necessary following reported cases of kidnappings and cult clashes in the state.

The unit have soon sprung to action with the rescue of one Mrs Comfort Udoenwang who was kidnapped in Calabar around highway by some group of young men suspected to belong to black Axe confraternity and taken to a village in Odukpani just some few miles from Calabar. She was rescued by the ready squad after investigation. The leader of the kidnapping group is said to still be at large as he escaped with bullet wounds.

Residents of Odukpani Local Government Area expressed shock at the incident. One man who spoke angrily said "it as unbelievable that this resident we pass daily to farm and other businesses was a home for kidnapped victims. I appreciate the effort of the police,the community will cooperate with them for further investigation." The origin of the kidnappers is still unknown but one thing certain is that they are Nigerians.

In the past months Calabar and some local government areas in the state have witnessed cases of kidnappings with ransom paid in millions. In Obudu Local Government Area of the state where the Governor Prof Ben Ayade is from, Five men were arrested by the police early this year in connection with series of kidnappings in the area. Since then, they haven't been any news of kidnapping in the area.

The family of Mrs Comfort who is rumored to be a business woman thank the police for being there and advise people to be very careful as most human being are no longer being human.

The commander of the new form Kidnapping and Cultism unit have advise people involved in such acts to desist from it as non would be spared. Adding that it is a zero tolerance especially for cultism that is now like a school or an occupation for youths in this Millennium. Recently there is rumored news of police shooting dead suspected cultists in Calabar South, an area that is dreaded by many and known to be genesis of every cult clash in Calabar that have given rise to names like "temple run and e don the happen". 

It is worthy to note that the Nigerian senate passed a death sentence for kidnapping last month and some Nigerians have called for a similar law as punishment for cultism that has taken many lives and pose a big threat to the society. However,Despite the new law they are still reported cases of kidnappings in the country.

The state police command also advise the general public to report strange moves in their locality to the nearest police station.
