CONSTRUCTION OF ROADS IN OBUDU ABANDONED?

The Construction of Roads in Obudu Local Government Area that started in July by Prof Ben Ayade led Cross River state government is still at it initial stage despite the high hopes of fast completion.

In July areas such as Hospital road, Ranch Road, Cyclist park, Ogoja Road were all bulldozed to be reconstructed in earnest. Many Residents in Obudu who have businesses by the road side were all displaced but consoled with the fact it is for the betterment of all but of recent are beginning to lament about the phase of the work that have remain stagnant or moving slower than a snail and questioned if  the road have been abandoned by their Son Prof Ben Ayade.

Residents urge the Governor to strife to the completion of the roads as the deplorable condition of it presently is unbearable. They lamented that it is no stepping out once it rains in the area as the entire road will be muddy and slippery which has resulted to many cases of accidents and fractured legs, hands or other forms of injury.

One Mr Agba who spoke said "No one is happy here about the road, we fall down there daily, the number of people in orthopedic homes has increased, the swallowing of Paracetamol and other pain reliever has also increase because of the worse condition of the road. Now it is either you fall down or cry of waist pains. We are begging on the state government to quickly ensure the completion of the road."

Another man who spoke without revealing his identity was of the opinion that the road should have been taken step by step. "Am not happy about the deplorable condition of the road that has taken us back to the 80s, the project should have been from one street or section to another and not to demolished the entire town subjecting people to hardship in this 21th Century. Moreover some of the areas like hospital road, Calabar road were in a very good condition. Ayade problem is that he want to do all and may end up doing nothing. My humble request is that the roads must be completed."

Other respondents to the situation described how ugly and dirty the town is currently as dust,mud etc are what makes up the town now and it has resulted to increased in price of transportation by the Commercial Motorcycle Riders popularly known as Okada. The circumstance has birth words like "Ayade Bring Back Our Road", "Kpash Ayade" and among others.




A headmistress in one of the urban school was of the opinion that the road construction appear slow because hopes were very high on the ground that Ayade is the digital son of the soil and there is generally high expectations from your own but called on understanding and calm to facilitate the completion of the proposed double lane Road.

 

People in the area have been advise by state official to be patient (as an essential tool for development) with the government as it will ensure the completion of the road in a matter of time. The Official also call on the indigenes to apply caution and drive gently throughout the period of the construction.

The Road Construction is handle by a Chinese Construction company which many have suspected to be own by the Governor and it is the first Major project in the area by the present state government.
