LIBERIA PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION RESCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER
Liberia Presidential election held last week has gone into face off after no candidate had up to 50% votes as required by the constitution.
Former Monaco footballer John Weah who has contested twice for the presidential race has just 39% of the votes while The out going vice president Joe Boakai got just 29% votes.
The election that took place on the 10th of this month is to mark the first democratic transition in Liberia after a period of alleged genocide and autocratic ruling under Charles Taylor who is serving a 50 years jail term in the United Kingdom.
The National Election Body had earlier denied speculations on social media that John Weah was announced the presidential winner. It can be recalled that some personalities including Arsenal long time Manager Arsene Wenger had sent congratulatory message to Weah who was a player under him during his Spell at Monaco.
United Nations Delegates sent to monitor the election process described the general conduct of the election as peaceful and thank the outgoing president Ellen Johnson for providing a conducive environment. They further warn against inciting remarks from the aspirants that would cause break down of law and other like recorded in some African countries and currently going on in Kenya.
Other Liberians also appreciated the peaceful conduct of the election and hope there would be improvement in alleged reports of malpractices. They begged for peace as they go into the face-off in November and avoidance of acts by all especially youths that may lead to lost of lives and properties as the country have seen a lot of death from Taylor crimes to Ebola mayhem.
Vice President Joe Boakai 73years old that has been nicknamed "sleeping Joe" maintained high hope of victory while John Weah 51years old is confident of winning in the election face-off.
Twenty candidates contested for the presidency scoring far below weah and Boakai.The face-off is scheduled to hold on the 7th of November but mode of it conduct is yet to be announced by the electoral body.
