POLICE OFFICER KILLED IN CALABAR NAVY-POLICE CLASH BURIED IN HIS HOME TOWN
Police Officer killed in a recent Calabar Navy-Police clash has finally been lay to rest in his home town after alleged to have been kept by the police force for "justice reasons".
The deceased police officer Mr Davis Odudu who until his death was a corporal was shot death by Angry Naval Officer on May 17 after a misunderstanding with one of the police traffic warden around the Calabar stadium axis.
The misunderstanding was said to have escalate when the police traffic warden shot a naval officer after an alleged disagreement that he broke the traffic rule. The news however got to Naval base and they were alleged to have stormed the premise of Akim Area Police Station with machine guns and amour car shooting sporadically. Some officers on duty were injured, building and vehicles destroyed and deserted for some days while Corporal Davis and Corporal Mbang Emmanuel lost their dear lives.
Mbang Emmanuel was laid to rest few weeks after the incident in his home town Ugep,Yarkur Local Government Area of Cross River State according to their tradition while Corporal Davis Odudu was yesterday buried in his home town Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Reacting to their death family and friends described their exit as "untimely painful" and lamented the "unsafe attitude" of the people vested with the power to protect us that inturn often contribute to our insecurity. They pray their gallant soul a perfect rest in peace from this wicked world.
The clash that got many residents of Calabar running helter skelter on that faithful Friday evening also witnessed alleged maltreatment of law abiding citizens from the angered Naval Officers who mounted road blocks around the IBB Way and High Way axis of Calabar Municipal. Most police officers narrowly escaped death as some were spotted pulling off their uniforms for long life sake.
The case was set for hearing by the committee set by the Government but details of it resolution is yet to be known. Nigerians have called for a cordial and peaceful working relationship among arm offices and with the general public that often clash in different parts of the country. They also begged for obedience to rule of law especially in obeying traffic as most are alleged to understand red traffic light as green light and intimidate vehicles ahead of them lawfully waiting for the go traffic light and intimidate whoever dare to question even when they are not on emergency matters.
Akim Police Station is just slightly opposite Navy Barracks and few miles from Naval Base.
