TEACHERS IN KADUNA THREATENS STRIKE ACTION IF ANY MEMBER IS SACK

The Kaduna branch of National Union of Teachers have threaten to embark on indefinite strike if the state governor sacks it members that failed the competency test last month.

Kaduna State Governor El Rufai had declared readiness to sack over twenty thousand teachers that fail a test administered to them by the state ministry of Education as measures to fish out incompetent teachers.

The test which was reported to be set with contents of primary 4 pupils had 21,650 teachers scoring below the pass mark of 70%. The governor had expressed disappointment with the result and readiness to replaced them with new teachers that would be employed.

The Chairman of Kaduna branch of National Union of Teachers, Audu Amba described the test as "not professionally recognized and lacking integrity". Audu added that only the Teacher's Registration Council of Nigerians have the right to administered test to teachers and which they already didbu before issuing out certificates to the various teachers.

Audu Amba said NUT body reached a decision for teachers of all public schools in the state to stay at home if any member is sacked. He added that the same alleged incompetent teachers were employed by the state and would remain as state workers till retirement.

Reacting to the development, some Nigerians expressed worries on our education system especially when a teacher can't pass a test main for the pupil he teaches. They called on the NUT body not to exercise protection for incompetent members to reduce the turn-out of "half bake" pupils.

The decision of the NUT is alleged to have been fuelled by the teachers to be sack as a step to stop the Governor from sending them back to the streets.
