UNICAL STUDENTS ARRESTED FOR IMPERSONATING ARMY OFFICERS

Two students of the university of Calabar have been arrested for impersonating as Army Officers on Facebook and around Calabar.

The students were identified as Daniel Onuta and Emmanuel Mba both year students in the department of Public Administration.

They are alleged to have collected over N300,000 from one Reuben Bartholomew to secure him a job in the army, publicized employment connection into the army on Facebook and among others alleged acts by the duo.

They were arrested by Cross River State police command after a report by Reuben Bartholomew. One of the police officer is reported to have gone undercover like an applicant seeking employment into the Nigeria Army just to get to the students.

They were arrested on the 22nd of October with some army wears and identity cards.

The police public relations officer in the state, Irene Ugbo confirmed the arrest and said they would be charge to court.

The suspects Daniel and Emmanuel are 22 and 20 years respectively. Alleged reports has it they are members of "Man O War", a voluntary group ensuring safety and order in the Campus.

Man O war outfit is similar to that of the Nigeria Army. The group are alleged to have been beaten by Army officers around high way while on a walkout two years ago.

Course mates of the suspects expressed shock over the arrest as they felt the duo were really army officers as they always pose to be.

A student of the university who preferred to hide her identity said "am not surprised ,man takes any form now to survive at the expense of others hence contributing to hate for ourselves."

The student added that "Some Unical students are known for impersonating in examinations hall and its unfortunate that they graduated to the level of highly respected army officers."

Daniel Onuta and Emmanuel pleaded for pardon, saying it was the quest to survive in the hard unemployed society that pushed them to such acts. They pleaded with the police to allow them complete the writing of their on going examination.
