UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR BURSAR AND OTHERS ARRESTED FOR KIDNAPPING ATTEMPT

The bursar of university of Calabar Mrs Beatrice Igwe have been arrested by the State police command in connection with kidnapping attempt of a daughter and wife of the University Vice Chancellor Prof Zana Itunbe Akpagu.

She was arrested in Calabar with two others known to be the husband of the bursar and bursary protocol officer. The police disclosed the trio have been sending threatening messages to the wife of the Vice Chancellor and among other undisclosed attempts.

Mrs Beatrice Igwe who hale from Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State was announced as the school Bursar earlier this year after a serious misunderstanding between the incumbent Vice Chancellor and the former Bursar Peter Agi who also hale from Yala Local Government Area.

Her arrest which came after investigation by the police got many including the staffs and students of the institution so surprised. Some are yet to believe the shocking news as they believed a seat of a bursar in an institution like Unical is a "bed of silver".

One of the lectures who spoke without disclosing his identify said "its unbelievable and a reminder that man can do anything. Though its not true yet until proven true beyond doubt in the law court, for now let's just watch how things unfold but i pray the police be right because no amount of apology or compensation would erase the big blow on her face."

A student was of the opinion that "Most management problems i have heard in the past three years from Unical comes from the bursary section. What's going on? Poor control of too much money?, its a shame that the very people directing the affairs of us the students in a learning environment behaves like illiterate. All these news is coming because of jealousy and lack of contentedness. there's high rate of jealousy in Unical and that's why lecturers are buried weekly by the school. The kidnap attempt is a big shame,I doubt if they understand what shame means."

University of Calabar has come under news of kidnapping severally with the last one being a wife and daughter of a Professor in Geology department who were residing at the school quarters but had to relocate immediately after a ransom was alleged to be paid for their release. 

However some people were of the thought that the allegation of kidnap could be a cover up of the main undisclosed issue. The fact now is there's an issue but if its kidnapping like the claims points then she may have been strongly influenced by someone in the dark. The Vice Chancellor Prof Zana Akpagu is known to be a good man. The school governing council is yet to look into the matter but if its true Mrs Beatrice stand a chance of loosing her position cum job.
