ARMY HOLDS ROBERT MUGABE CAPTIVED
Zimbabwe Army have taken over the presidential resident in capital harare this morning.
Mugabe and his wife are currently being held captives in the presidential villa. The situation has been described as a coup attempt but no official announcement of power seizure has been made yet.
A high ranking Army official in the country, Major General Sibusiso Mayo has addressed residents after seizing the State Television broadcasting station.
Maj. Sibusiso said the military takeover is a calculated move to clear the state of "criminals" and maintained there would be high appropriate measures against any interference.
The Army chief Gen Constantino Wenga maintained that Mugabe and his family are safe.
The veteran President Robert Gabriel Mugabe who has been in power since 1980 is reported to have communicated with Jacob Zuma, the South Africa President through a secured line, revealing he is alright.
The suspected coup is coming one week after the vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa was sacked from his position. Speculations around the capital suspect Mnangagwa to be behind the coup.
Reactions on social media have followed the breaking news with some condemning such style in this 21th century and blamed the West for being behind the coup while some were in "water-leaf jubilation".
Mugabe 93 years old fought whole hearted for the independence of Zimbabwe from the United Kingdom in 1980. He spent 11 years in prison for his effort to clear the country of western dominance.
The sacking of his vice president indirectly means Grace Mugabe is strongly likely to be his successor if things work according to plan.
Some African countries have in recent years experienced failed coup attempts and this is assumed not to be an exception.
Some well meaning Zimbabweans and Africans at large have pleaded through several tweets that normalcy should returned by allowing due process to take over. They warned against actions that would lead to more regrets.
Mugabe had in September this year said "in 21th century, issues are solved with the brain and not muscles".
