About 10 filling stations have been sanctioned by the acting controller of the department of petroleum resources in Zamfara state for violating the rules and regulations of the department.

The acting controller general, Sellah Audu revealed to newsmen in Gusau after a week of monitoring the activities of the filling stations.

Sellah disclosed that 10 filling stations were selling fuel above N145 pump price while others reluctantly refused to sale with the pretense of no fuel, aimed at causing pressure in motorists and subsequent increase of pump price.

The violated filling stations have been locked up by the department as the consequence for breaking the rules stipulates and would pay a pretty fined.

The Gusau branch chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has however denied claims of just influencing the pump price.

He said it was rather as a result of increase in the price by private depots from N133 to N145 and they can't afford to run at losses.

Yuletide is often a period of fuel scarcity despite it abundance in Nigeria. Such scarcity is alleged to be influence by unknown individuals for profitable sake at the expense of poor Nigerians.

In some state capital like Calabar and Porthacourt, a similar hick in price was recorded last week and still partially on going. A litre of fuel went as high as N185 with long queues causing expression of anger among buyers.

Commuters have called on the significant agencies to monitor the activities of this filling stations especially during this period of Christmas and defaulters should be punished accordingly.
