COUPLE MARRIED FOR 12YEARS ARRESTED IN KANO FOR TRYING TO BUY A BABY

Police in Kano State have arrested a couple married for 12years without a child and one other alleged to be a nurse. The arrest was made following a report by one miss Hajiya Fatima that she was contacted by a nurse to sale her 5 years old daughter.

Confirming the arrest Magaji Majiya who is the Kano state police public relation officer said a couple and a nurse were arrested after trying to buy a child and will be charge to court.

Fatima is said to have cooperated with the nurse who was the middle man between her and the couple as advise by the police when she reported. The nurse and the couple were arrested after they paid fifteen thousand naira cash to Fatima in a secret meeting around the state metropolis.

The nurse has admitted to the deal but the couples who went all the way from River State to Kano to buy the child denied the allegations saying they don't know any Fatima nor had any such arrangements with the nurse. They couples added that they were only in the State to adopt a child as the law demands after being married for 12years without a child.

The nurse has been dismissed from the private hospital he works and is to stand trial in court with the couples.
Rumors circulating around the state has it the couples were not really married as claim and were just on such business mission. The rumors also has it they were working for an unknown man or men.

Child trafficking is a predominant practice in Nigeria because of the beliefs different body parts can be use for sacrifices to deities for protection, fame, prosperity ,business and political growth. Many have been arrested in connection with the practice but just few are known to be convicted.
