FIGHTING IN UGANDA PARLIAMENT LEFT MANY INJURED AND UNCONSCIOUS
Fighting in the Uganda parliament left many injured and unconscious. According to reports Fighting broke out when a motion was move to remove the presidential age limit of 75years, a ground that will allow the incumbent president Yoweri Museveni to contest for a sixth term in office.
The house was divided as some of the lawmakers were in support of the motion while others were strongly against it which later resulted to exchange of blows and the used of chairs on each other.
One of the MP against the motion said he was unconscious for two days in the hospital after a wooden chair and cord was hit on his head. He further expressed that ,"i was not born when President Yoweri started ruling and most of the law makers today were still kids but we have grown to this stage and he is still in power. That's unacceptable, he should give others a chance, the law clearly say five term and it was influence to this level but there is need to respect that now,i was descended on because i stood for what the law says."
Others described the act as non regrating saying they were protecting the constitution and that is in line with the law .President Yoweri Museveni born 15 September 1944(73years) has been president of Uganda since 29 January 1986(31years) and was one of the opposition fighter that ousted Idi Amin. According to the Uganda law, Yoweri 73years age means he won't be qualified to contest the next election and that gave rise to unwelcome need of changing the law.
Fighting by law makers during house session is predominant in Africa with Nigeria not an exception. They are often clashes of interests in attempt to change the law, elect the house executives or for reasons we may not know but all comes under the umbrella power struggle. All these often subject them to total loss of gentility. In Nigeria they have been reported cases of fighting among senators and house of assemble members across the country during plenary session. An act which has been described as an embarrassment and the inability to understand that in the 21th Century varying opinions are solve with the brain and not muscles.
Uganda General election was held in February 2016 and is schedule to hold next in 2021, that's a five years term.
