A federal high court sitting in Abuja has awarded the sum of N12.5M as damages to Peace Corps of Nigeria after eight months of unlawfully arrest of it Commander.

The Nigeria Police had in April this year invaded the premises of Peace Corps Headquarters located opposite Jabi Lake in Abuja, arresting the commandant, Dickoson Akor and sealed up the office.

The arrest which dashed off the hopes of many Nigerians who had applied for the force was base on alleged reports of defrauding applicants pretty thousands of Naira.

Passing the judgement yesterday,9th of November in Abuja ,Justice Gabriel Kolawole ordered the police to unseal the office of Peace Corps Nigeria and N12.5M be paid as compensation.

The news was described as so welcoming by some members of the Peace Corps who are currently being paid by the private employers they are attached to but with high hopes the Nigeria Senate will adopt the long existing agency.

Despite the court order, premises of the peace corps headquarters in Abuja was still sealed as of the time of work closure yesterday but likely to be opened today.

Some Nigerians called on the Federal Government to fast track modalities that would lead to adoption of the scheme as it would go a long way to reduce unemployment rate looming the country.
